Sábado noviembre 20 - Gatineau. Danc/se Kapital will present Llanto, by dancer/choreographer Juliana Pulford in a flamenco adaptation of the beautiful and mournful poem of the same name. Guest artists from across Canada will be joined by Mexico's award-winning flamenco phenomenon, Ricardo "El Niño" Osorio. In 1935, Federico García Lorca wrote his famous poem Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías upon the death of his close friend. Considered one of the most exquisite elegies in the Spanish language, Llanto is a soulful expression of grief, loss and love. Supported by a talented ensemble that includes flamenco guitar and singing, cello, poetry, flamenco and contemporary dance, LLanto is a spectacular presentation that seeks to convey the intensity and emotion of one of Lorca's most beloved works. Hasta octubre 3 - Ottawa. The Ottawa School of Art (OSA), in conjunction with H.E. Ambassador Francisco Barrio of the Embassy of Mexico in Canada are proud to present "Colour, Texture and Freedom", an exhibition celebrating the bicentenary of the Independence of Mexico. Canadian artists born in Mexico Gilda Pontbriand, Ixchel Suàrez, Susana Danelon and Ana Barker's works will be showcased. Their paintings and tapestries utilize an abundance of colours and textures, while engaging the audience with a history rich in passion, independence and freedom. The artwork is divided in two parts: the first one explores the mysterious symbolism and spirituality of Pre-Columbian Cultures of America, where every action and every thought was symbolic. The second part deals with the historic moment of the declaration of Independence. Admission is free. This exhibition runs from September 9, 2010 to October 3, 2010.

Septiembre 9 - Ottawa. The Ottawa School of Art (OSA), in conjunction with H.E. Ambassador Francisco Barrio of the Embassy of Mexico in Canada are proud to present "Colour, Texture and Freedom", an exhibition celebrating the bicentenary of the Independence of Mexico. Canadian artists born in Mexico Gilda Pontbriand, Ixchel Suàrez, Susana Danelon and Ana Barker's works will be showcased. Their paintings and tapestries utilize an abundance of colours and textures, while engaging the audience with a history rich in passion, independence and freedom. The artwork is divided in two parts: the first one explores the mysterious symbolism and spirituality of Pre-Columbian Cultures of America, where every action and every thought was symbolic. The second part deals with the historic moment of the declaration of Independence. The opening night vernissage & reception will take place at the OSA Main Gallery in the ByWard Market on Thursday September 9, 2010 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Admission is free. Al ritmo del Mariachi Guanajuato, el son jarocho, y la gran fiesta que significa celebrar 200 años del bicentenario de la Independencia de México, y 100 años de su Revolución, el Ballet Folklórico mexicano Aztlán de Ottawa-Gatineau, presentará el viernes 18 junio, un programa especial, para conmemorar dichos eventos. El maestro Josue Nieto, director artístico del ballet, comentó que se trata de un espectáculo muy atractivo para toda la familia porque además de las coreografías alusivas a la Revolución Mexicana, creadas especialmente para este espectáculo, se presentaran coreografías de los estados de Yucatán, Puebla, Sinaloa, Jalisco, Veracruz y Zacatecas, acompañados por el Mariachi Guanajuato. El programa fue concebido como un homenaje a la participación de la mujer en la lucha revolucionaria, "a las adelitas que también arriesgaron su vida en esta batalla". More than 50 artists have donated work that is affordably priced and will be sold with 100% of sales going to help the tragic situation in Haiti. A minimum $5 donation fee will be asked. Enero 28 - Ottawa. A concert of Latin music (traditional and popular) with South American fusion group PACHAMAMA MUSIC & CARIDAD CRUZ/CESAR RICARDO. This double bill concert will be held at the NAC Fourth Stage. January 28 at 7:30, and tickets are $15 each. It is sponsored by CHIN Radio in conjunction with Carleton University, as part of their CHIN Radio World Music Showcase. Pachamama Music (Music of Mother Earth) is a Latin-Andean ensemble that blends traditional Andean music of Peru with Latin guitar-based styles such as the Bossa Nova. Band leader and multi-instrumentalist Willy Terrones has performed with several folkloric groups in Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, and French Guyana. A native of Havana, Cuba, CARIDAD CRUZ delights audiences everywhere with her powerful voice and charismatic high energy. Performing with her in this concert is fellow Cuban CÉSAR RICARDO, a brilliant guitarist, singer and songwriter in the trovadore tradition.
