En este curso se analizará la llamada sociedad posrevolucionaria del México de los años 1920 a 1940.  Se estudiará cómo el Art Déco, gracias a sus caraterísticas, le ofrece al nuevo gobierno una alternativa para proyectar el concepto que trata de imponer como nación, sobre todo a través de la arquitectura. The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is pleased to unveil Roots to Rhythm: Caribana Art Exhibit, launched as part of Scotiabank Caribana 2008, North America’s largest outdoor event celebrating Caribbean and African-Canadian heritage.  Building on the ROM’s commitment of presenting art inspired by cultures from around the world, this juried exhibition features a captivating collection of 70 canvases created by 24 artists of African-Canadian heritage.  Produced by the Association of African Canadian Artists and curated by renowned African-Canadian artist and activist Joan Butterfield, the installation will be on display in the Museum’s 3rd floor Centre Block from Friday, July 25th to Monday, August 4, 2008.

Art and History from 1868 to Today, which brings together some 400 works of art, is the most important exhibition ever presented to showcase the art of this Caribbean island, which Christopher Columbus described as “the most beautiful land eyes have ever seen.” Thanks to the collaboration of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and the Fototeca de Cuba, and of many collectors and museums in the United States, including the MoMA, this exhibition draws a broad panorama of Cuban art and history. This lively and well-conceived multidisciplinary exhibition brings together about one hundred paintings, including a huge collective mural produced in 1967 by many artists, two hundred photographs and documents, approximately one hundred works on paper (in particular two collections of pre- and post-1959-Revolution posters), installations and videos, in addition to music and film excerpts. A heart-warming Vlm about a young boy who dreams of becoming an astronaut, and helps to manage the lives of the people around him. Agresti’s Vlm takes place in 1969 and follows Valentin, an intelligent and lonely young boy living with his grandmother after his parents divorced. Valentin never sees his mother, as she was chased out of the home by Valentin’s aggressive father, who now spends little time at home, spending his time attempting to live the life of an Argentine playboy. Alicia Borisonik and the Argentinean Project AND Rene Gely and Pulse Mondiale, present a double-bill, free concert at Carleton University's Kailash Mital Theatre on March 30, 2008 at 7:30 pm.  Alicia--singer, song-writer, keyboardist, and accordion player--will be accompanied by her band of  professional musicians, playing music that mixes tango, Latin and Jazz styles.  Rene Gely, guitarist and keyboardist fronts Pulse Mondiale, playing a repertoire of Latin Jazz standards, Afro Cuban Descargas, traditional folk songs, and African grooves. El documental canadiense Memorias de un Soñador de Alisson Larrea, será presentado en el Festival de Cine Latino del Phoenix College el jueves 27 de marzo a las 19:00 p.m. en el  Auditorium Bulpitt, 1202 Oeste de la Calle Thomas. Memorias de un Soñador  también será exhibido en el marco de la tercera edición del Women’s International Film Festival (WIFF) en Miamiel domingo 30 de marzo a las 13:00 p.m. Memorias de un Soñador es el relato en primera persona de las atrocidades que soportó un prisionero político durante la cruel dictadura chilena de 1973.  Félix Mora revive la atroz tortura y la humillación que padeció a manos del Régimen de Pinochet, y relata su vida de exiliado en Italia y Canadá. Más de treinta años después, se pregunta si estará listo para regresar a su país de origen o si estas experiencias lo han llevado a un punto sin retorno.
