The exhibition POST-DATA proposes a new look at the artistic research and creation of a number of professors from the School of Art of the Pontificia Universidad de Chile (UC) who reflect on creative processes, the development of works over time and references to further an understanding of decisions made in constructing their works. These reflections range from academic formalities to biographical allusions. Together, they form a frame of reference that brings us closer to the works with a different perspective in relation to what they originally suggested. These temporal and spatial shifts help to define the temporary and potentially transformable nature of the works. Chilean art has typically featured an abundance of stories about geographic distance, social relations on all levels and especially a heightened political awareness. Each of these creative engines can be found in Post-Data to varying degrees and through a variety of ways of exploring knowledge construction anchored in the visual experience—or naked-eye, “retinal” knowledge—since it is the value of the images and the changes they have undergone over time that truly shape the content of this exhibition. - Mario Navarro

Verónica Barraza is a visual artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master’s degree in Analytical Psychology. She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Creation and Psycho-Plastic Art and is the Academic Director of the Diploma Program in Psycho-Plastic Art.
Mónica Bengoa recent solo shows include entre lo exhaustivo y lo inconcluso, [between the comprehensive and the inconclusive], Sala Gasco (2009); The Third Lie, chromatic deflections, Rubin Center for the Visual Arts, University of Texas, El Paso (2008); Mónica Bengoa SCL–MAD–SCL, Galería Carmen de la Calle, Madrid (2007); enero, 7:25, [January, 7:25] Galería Gabriela Mistral, Santiago; and the color of the garden, latincollector gallery, New York (2004). Recent group shows include Chili, l’envers du décor [Chile, behind the scenes], Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton, Paris (2010); El Terremoto de Chile [the Chilean earthquake], Chilean Triennial (2009) and Lo spazio dell’uomo [the space of man], Fondazione Merz, Turin, Italy (2008). In 2007, she was the Chilean representative at the 52nd Venice Biennial, and also took part in Poetics of the Handmade at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, and the Daniel López Show at New York’s White Box gallery.
Danilo Espinoza recent exhibitions include Umbra et Imago [shadow and image] (Santiago, Chile, 2009), Telúrico [from the depths of the earth] (La Serena, Chile, 2009), and Once upon a time, (Berlin, Germany, 2010). He is currently working on his Fine Arts doctoral degree at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in Spain.
Paula de Solminihac art practice includes sculpture and photography. Since 2001, she has actively participated in national and international exhibitions, art shows and biennials. (www.pauladesolminihac.cl <http://www.pauladesolminihac.cl> )
Roberto Farriol has a Master’s of Fine Arts from Paris I, Pantheon – Sorbonne (1994), and a DEA (degree in advanced studies) from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (2005). His research in the field of video art includes: “El Ciclo en el vídeo, como movimiento inmóvil” [the video loop as immobile movement], “La vídeo instalación como pintura” [video installation as painting], and “Vídeo pintura de la figura humana” [video painting of the human form].
Rodrigo Galecio was born in Santiago, Chile in 1972, where he lives and works. He studied at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile’s School of Art and completed his graduate studies at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He has taken part in a number of exhibitions in Chile and abroad.
Mario Navarro lives and works in Santiago, Chile. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he currently teaches. In 2009 and 2010, he was a visiting professor at Belgium’s HISK (Higher Institute for Fine Arts). He has participated in a number of biennials, including Liverpool (2006), São Paulo (2006) and Havana (2010). He curated the El Árbol Magnético [the magnetic tree] exhibition at the VII MERCOSUR Biennial in Porto Alegre, Brazil (2009) as well as the Daniel Lopez Show at White Box and the Roebling Hall Gallery in New York. He is the current curator of Chile's Museo de La Memoria y Los Derechos Humanos [Museum of Memory and Human Rights].
Ignacio Villegas has doctorate in Fine Arts from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in Spain. He is the director of the proposed Fine Arts PhD program and teaches undergraduate and graduate studies in the Arts faculty. Recent exhibitions: Margen y desborde: Ejercicios sobre la periferia del dibujo [margin and overflow: exercises on borders in drawing] (2009), Anselmo Cádiz cultural association, El Bosque municipality, Santiago, Chile (duo). Post-Data creación e investigación ARTE UC [Post-Script, artistic creation and research at the UC] (2010) Sala Blanca, Continuing Education, Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago, Chile (group). Tríada [triad], Galería de Arte Aníbal Pinto, Temuco, Chile (duo).
Iván Zambrano lives and works in Santiago, Chile. He uses painting, photography and objects to explore the problematization of interpersonal relationships built on the various gender-based identities. L’exposition POST-DATA propose un regard neuf sur la recherche artistique et la création d’un certain nombre de professeurs de l’École d’art de la Pontificia Universidad de Chile (UC), qui se penchent sur les processus artistiques et les œuvres qui se développent pendant une certaine période de temps; l’exposition fournit des références pour mieux comprendre les décisions qui mènent à la création de leurs œuvres. Ces réflexions vont des formalités académiques aux allusions biographiques. Ensemble, elles forment un cadre de référence qui permet aux spectateurs de se rapprocher des œuvres avec une perspective différente par rapport à ce qu’elles évoquaient au départ. Ces changements temporels et spatiaux aident à définir la nature passagère et peut-être transformable des œuvres. En règle générale, l’art chilien a souvent mis en lumière une abondance de récits qui portent sur la distance géographique, les rapports sociaux à tous les niveaux et, en particulier, sur une conscience politique aigue. À divers degrés, tous ces moteurs créatifs se retrouvent dans Post-Data et explorent de plusieurs façons la construction du savoir ancrée dans l’expérience visuelle — ou la connaissance « rétinienne » à l’œil nu — puisque c’est la valeur des images et des changements qui les ont transformées au fil du temps qui façonne vraiment le contenu de cette exposition. - Mario Navarro

Verónica Barraza, Artiste visuelle, Baccalauréat en arts visuels, Maîtrise en Psychologie Analytique. Elle est directrice du département menant au diplôme en Psychoplastique (thérapie de l’art) de l’École d’art de l’Université Pontificale Catholique du Chili où elle enseigne aux étudiants des premier et deuxième cycles universitaires.
Mónica Bengoa. Elle a reçu en 1993 un Baccalauréat en art de l’Université Catholique du Chili, et enseigne depuis cette date des cours d’atelier dans la même université. Parmi ses expositions individuelles les plus récentes, les plus importantes sont Entre los exhaustivo y lo inconcluso (entre l’exhaustif et l’innachevé), Sala Gasco, Santiago (2009), The Third Lie, Chromatic Deflections, Rubin Center for the Visual Arts, Université du Texas, El Paso (2008), Mónica Bengoa SCL–MAD–SCL, Galerie Carmen de la Calle, Madrid (2007), Enero, 7:25, Galerie Gabriela Mistral, Santiago et The Color of the Garden, Galerie Latincollector, New York (2004). Rodrigo Galecio, né à Santiago en 1972, vit et travaille à Santiago, Chili. Il s’est formé à l’Université Pontificale Catholique du Chili et a mené ses études supérieures à l’Université Complutense de Madrid. Il a exposé ses oeuvres dans de nombreuses expositions au Chili et à l’étranger.
Mario Navarro vit et travaille à Santiago, Chili. Il a reçu un Baccalauréat en arts de l’Université Pontificale Catholique du Chili et y travaille présentement comme professeur. En 2009 et 2010 il a été professeur invité à l’Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts (HISK) en Belgique. Il a notamment fait partie des biennales de Liverpool (2006), São Paulo (2006) et La Havane (2010). En tant que commissaire d’exposition, il a monté El Árbol Magnético (L’arbre magnétique), 7ème Biennale du MERCOSUR, Porto Alegre, Brésil (2009) et Daniel López Show, Galerie White Box et Galerie Roebling Hall, New York. Actuellement, il est commissaire du Musée de la Mémoire et des Droits de l’Homme du Chili.

Iván Zambrano vit et travaille à Santiago où, parallèlement à sa pratique artistique. Son travail porte sur les gender issues, soit les questions relatives aux relations interpersonnelles construites à partir des diverses identités de genres.
