Gatineau. La UNAM ofrece el curso de cultura El Art Déco en México como proyecto de modernidad: La Colonia Hipódromo-Condesa (18 horas-$140). En este curso se analizará la llamada sociedad posrevolucionaria del México de los años 1920 a 1940.  Se estudiará cómo el Art Déco, gracias a sus caraterísticas, le ofrece al nuevo gobierno una alternativa para proyectar el concepto que trata de imponer como nación, sobre todo a través de la arquitectura. Toronto. A Space Gallery presents Pilgrimage of Wanderers. Artists: Claudia Bernal, José Mansilla-Miranda, Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo y José Luis Torres. Curated by Tamara Toledo. Opening Reception Friday September 5th, 2008 6-9pm. Pilgrimage of Wanderers attempts to tackle a peripheral terrain of unexpected arrivals and departures by not only presenting a graphic spectacle of trauma, but by leaving an imprint of the ordeal of violence. Attached to memory and inspired by a distant place, the artists share a humble yet fervid voice determined to pursue redemption. Through performance, video, installation, sculpture and drawing the artist’s address and embody issues of mobility, displacement, nomadism, and exile. In essence, Pilgrimage of Wanderers explores core political and religious dogmas destined to navigate new contexts and realities, on a voyeuristic quest in response trauma. It is a 4-day contemporary multi-disciplinary arts festival that shows a fusion between the different cultures and roots of the Latin American and African artists involved and the influence of the society where they work and reside. Toronto. A Space Gallery presents  ciudadMULTIPLEcity. The connection between art and the city has become an increasingly urgent matter of debate. ciudadMULTIPLEcity was a project that gathered international artists, including Francis Alÿs, Ghada Amer, Gustavo Artigas, Cildo Meireles and Gu Xiong, and had them respond to Panama City's fascinating complexities. Gerardo Mosquera, curator of the 2003 urban art event in Panama, will discuss issues on art and the public realm. Toronto. A Space Gallery presents Gerardo Mosquer. Co-presented with Salvador Allende Arts Festival for Peace. AGAINST LATIN AMERICAN ART. Drawing on his practical experience as an international curator, Gerardo Mosquera will discuss the changes in paradigms that have epitomized the practice and theory of contemporary art in Latin America. Being “against Latin American art” is to oppose the problematic totalization that the term carries. Even if the idea of Latin America still has cultural and political currency, the conception of it as an integral, emblematic entity is being rejected. Gerardo Mosquera ( Havana, 1945) is a freelance curator and art critic based in Havana, Cuba. Adjunct Curator at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, advisor at the Rijksakademie van Beeldenden Kunsten, Amsterdam, and member of the advisory board of several art journals. Gatineau. La UNAM ofrece el curso de cultura Dos autoras paradigmáticas de la LITERATURA MEXICANA:Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (1649-1695) y Guadalupe Amor (1918-2000). (18 horas-$140). En este curso se harán diferentes ejercicios de lectura de poemas y prosa de dos notables escritoras mexicanas: Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (sigloXVI) y Guadalupe Amor (SigloXX), así como de algunos de sus contemporáneos, con el objeto de ayudar a los participantes a una mejor comprensión de las mentilidades de los dos momentos históricos-barroco y época posrevolucionaria respectivamente- en que estas escritoras mexicanas produjeron su obra.  El curso se ilustrará con ejemplos prictóricos y musicales de las dos épocas.  Está dirigido a estudiantes intermedios y avanzados interesados en mejorar su capacidad lectora, así como a hispanohablantes admiradores de la obra de estas destacadas mujeres.
